Hey! Welcome to Wandering Aimlessly. This is a place where I write and reflect, on anything to do with the intricacies of interpersonal relationships. A space which allows for more nuance and reflection than 140-characters can provide.
I’m Mia Ristovska. By day, I’m a Social Worker and Clinical Lead in the Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence space. I’m also a mother, partner, chronic hobby starter, Utah Jazz fanatic, overthinker and painfully sober being. While I have always loved writing and have occasionally provided content for both work and general interest reasons, I have never focused on it as a vessel for my creative energy (or as I more commonly refer to it as, my “brain farts”).
Essentially, it’s a place to reflect on the intricacies on navigating life, through the various lenses we see through. It’s wanting to understand how we make meaning of our experiences and our relationships, by digging a little bit deeper into them. This is all done in a reflective way, with the underlying understanding that we are all inherently flawed and capable of being dickheads (but doing our damn best).
This can look like personal/reflective essays, discussion threads, lists, reflection prompts, weekly/monthly wrap-ups. To be honest with you, I am still figuring that out - but I am hoping you’ll let me know how you’d like for it to be shaped.
….great question!
Firstly, I love writing. I find it fully engrossing, exciting, challenging and confronting all at once. And while I do some writing for my career, I have quickly found that I need a place to write on topics which have a different purpose to my “day job”. You can love your work, but need space and separation for it - besides, I am not sure how healthy it is to purely focus on DFSV in trying to achieve that elusive work/life balance.
At this stage, a significant portion of the writing I do on here will be accessible for all, under the free subscription option. I’m making the commitment to my subscribers that there will be, at least, a fortnightly addition to your inbox by subscribing to Wandering Aimlessly. That’s pretty great!
For those who would like to contribute to my brain farts, there will be additional content delivered. My hottest takes*, discussion threads, any resources I’ve developed for the purposes of whatever, sobriety reflections and support, Q&As, requests for pieces and for discussion. You will also get my undying gratitude, for considering my writing worthy of contributing to - and I cannot express enough how much that means to me.
In turn, I aim to pay it forward by paying for subscriptions to other writers and creators. I will showcase all of my subscriptions on my landing page, but there’s a number which I am proud to financially support. I am also extremely open to gifting subscriptions to those who would like to access the paid tiers of work but are unable to fund it for whatever reason, particularly anyone who is looking for sobriety support or reflections. If that’s you (or know someone who could benefit from this), please send me an email - themiasandrist@gmail.com - and let me know their email. No questions asked.
I hope you find something here that resonates with you. I love connecting - please feel free to engage in comments and discussion threads. I’m also painfully active on twitter - you can find me here (but be warned, I do tweet excessively about the Utah Jazz).
Warmly,
Mia
